CREATING
"TY GWERIN"

I lived in Wales for five years, where I experienced and learned much about its culture and met my partner. During those years, I attended the Eisteddfod several times, visited Tafwyl, travelled around Wales on two camping trips and attended Welsh concerts. As I immersed myself more deeply in the Welsh-speaking world, I became increasingly aware of the diverse worlds that coexist within Wales.
The different sides of Wales
On one hand, there is the often stereotypical side of Wales, characterised by rugby, the valleys, daffodils, the colours of the flag, dragons, sheep, leeks and choirs. On the other hand, there is the mystical side, reflected in its landscapes, legends, poetry and music, all rooted in, told, written and sung in Welsh, an ancient language still spoken in Wales.

Quirky venues around the world
With all the knowledge I accumulated over the years, I felt an increasing need to capture it visually. Visiting other cafés, bars and restaurants around the world like "El Bosc de les Fades" in Barcelona, "Andrés Carne de Res" in Bogotá and "Tafelrunde" in Berlin, I noticed more and more that quirky places like these are not common in Wales; most pubs have a somewhat similar look and feel. This inspired me to imagine what a Welsh-themed pub could look like - “Ty Gwerin”.
